Position Summary:
The Receptionist provides phone and receptionist duties and various administrative duties on behalf of the church staff. This position politely and professionally communicates via phone, email, and in person.
Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides excellent first impression experience for everyone who calls or visits the South Campus.
- Greets, screens, and directs visitors. Provides basic office security by controlling church access.
- Ensures reception area is tidy and presentable.
- Manages the phone system for the church. Screens and directs phone calls. Timely distributes phone messages.
- Appropriately handles callers with prayer request by obtaining pertinent details to give to the Pastor on Duty and/or may pray with the caller.
- Maintains and updates lists for hospital visits and calls, shut-in ministry, prayer lists, and long-term care lists. Assigns Pastoral Care person, as needed.
- Comfortably works with computers for assignments.
- Enters attendance for services, groups, and other events into church attendance database.
- Receives and distributes all deliveries and packages.
- Organizes and maintains administrative supplies.
- Provides administrative support for events and calendar items as requested.
- Functions as a member of the administrative staff.
Experience/Skills/Abilities:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED. Some college coursework is highly preferred. Ministry courses are helpful.
- Requires at least 1-2 years of office administration or other applicable experience.
- Requires a demonstrated proficiency with internet and Microsoft office.
- Must have the ability to learn and proficiently utilize other church software.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to multitask and timely accomplish work assignments with multiple interruptions.
- Requires the ability to be proactive, organized, and detail oriented.
- Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Requires working independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality of information.
- Must demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment.
- Must demonstrate a spiritual maturity to handle prayer request phone calls and calls to church members.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS will include but not be limited to: walking, standing, sitting, stooping, manual operation of office machines, occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. of office supplies and/or delivered packages, reaching, kneeling, understanding speech. Must be able to hear clearly and distinctly. Must be able to communicate clearly over the phone.
