Position Summary: The Sports Ministry Assistant supports the Sports Ministry Pastor in organizing and facilitating sports-related activities, outreach events, league play, and recreational programs. This role helps integrate faith and sports to foster community engagement, discipleship, and fellowship, with a focus on pickleball, basketball, and volleyball during open play sessions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Event & Program Support
- Assist the Sports Ministry Pastor in planning, promoting, and executing regular sports events, leagues, tournaments, and open play sessions.
- Help with set-up, tear-down, and logistics for all sports ministry activities.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained and ready for activities.
- Open Play & Recreational Activities (Pickleball, Basketball, Volleyball)
- Organize and oversee regular open play sessions for pickleball, basketball, and volleyball, ensuring a welcoming and Christ-centered environment.
- Welcome participants, explain rules, ensure fair play, and maintain an inclusive, positive atmosphere.
- Develop relationships with attendees, encouraging deeper involvement in the ministry.
- Monitor and enforce safety protocols to prevent injuries and ensure a respectful playing environment.
3. League Play Assistance
- Support the Sports Ministry Pastor in overseeing and managing ongoing leagues.
- Assist with game-day logistics, including team check-ins, scheduling, and scorekeeping.
- Ensure referees, coaches, and volunteers are properly assigned and equipped for their roles.
- Help maintain league records, standings, and communication with teams and players.
- Foster a spirit of sportsmanship and faith-based competition within league play.
- Spiritual Engagement & Discipleship
- Support the Sports Ministry Pastor in leading devotionals, prayer, and Bible studies that connect sports with faith.
- Encourage and mentor participants, ensuring a Christ-centered culture within the sports ministry.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Passion for sports ministry and using athletics as a tool for discipleship and outreach.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well with teams, volunteers, and diverse groups of people.
- Servant-hearted attitude and a commitment to fostering a Christ-centered sports environment.
- Knowledge of pickleball, basketball, and volleyball, as well as general league operations.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for events.
